Thomas Russell joins the Faculty of Public Affairs at Carleton University after completing his PhD in economics at the University of Toronto. Russell’s research interests include econometrics, applied econometrics and partial identification.
Russell says, “In general, my research is concerned with relaxing assumptions used in statistical models in economics in order to draw more credible conclusions from data. Unrealistic modelling assumptions can often lead to misleading or incorrect conclusions from data, which can have an adverse effect on the problem of making good policy choices.”
This year at Carleton, Russell is teaching graduate courses in econometrics. His current research projects are focused on specific models frequently used by economists and illustrating what can be learned from data with these models under weaker assumptions.
