A seasoned leader in both the public and private sectors, Ms. Raitt brings a wealth of experience from her time as a federal Cabinet Minister, Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition, and her current role at CIBC Capital Markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a career spanning government and business, Ms. Raitt has shaped key policies in natural resources, labour, and transportation\u2014areas crucial to Canada\u2019s economic and social landscape. Her insights promise to deliver a compelling discussion on leadership, policy, and public affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Honourable Lisa Raitt joined CIBC Capital Markets in January 2020, having previously worked in both the public and private sectors. Ms. Raitt\u2019s current focus is on senior client coverage and business development with clients in the energy, infrastructure and industrial sectors, which align closely with her deep expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to her current role, Ms. Raitt was the President and CEO of the Toronto Port Authority. She was elected into the House of Commons in 2008, where she went on to hold three senior portfolios serving as Minister of Natural Resources, Minister of Labour, and Minister of Transport. Most recently, Ms. Raitt was the Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. Raitt holds a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Francis Xavier University and a master\u2019s degree in Chemistry from the University of Guelph. She possesses an LL.B from Osgoode Hall Law School and was called to the Ontario bar in 1998. In 2020 Ms. Raitt was named a Woodrow Wilson Center Global Fellow of the Canada Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2024, Lisa was presented with an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Ottawa<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n

The Dick, Ruth, and Judy Bell Lecture is an annual lecture that honours the contributions of individuals to the political and public life of Canada. It was established by Ruth Bell, a political science alumna who was an educator and champion for women\u2019s and children\u2019s rights in honour of her husband Dick Bell and her step-daughter Judy Bell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speakers may include individuals who have been active in politics or public service or distinguished scholars in political science. The lectures themselves are generally devoted to discussions of political subjects, either in a present-day or historical context. Scholars and graduate students are encouraged to attend and use the lectures as a basis for further work in Canadian studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
