OpenMedia is a non-profit grassroots organization that works to keep the Internet open, affordable and surveillance-free. Tribe has presented directly to decision makers and politicians, including the Prime Minister\u2019s Office, Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crtc.gc.ca\/eng\/home-accueil.htm\">Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission<\/a>&nbsp;(CRTC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInternet policy is complicated, but we want people to understand how it impacts them,\u201d she says. \u201cWe\u2019re the intermediaries who ensure the voices of those most affected are amplified and heard by those making the critical decisions that affect the internet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tribe explored the role of communication as a human right and critical aspect of development during her master\u2019s thesis at Carleton. This education taught her skills she still uses today.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIt wasn\u2019t enough to think about and define my perspective; I actually had to defend it. That stayed with me: the ability to stand up for what I believe in,\u201d she says. \u201cIt often comes into play in grassroots advocacy when we\u2019re taking on the government or corporations.
