Degrees:PhD

Ana is a PhD Candidate at the Northern Institute; Charles Darwin University and her research is dealing with “Migration against the tide”. Ana is interested in researching and analysing rural communities and their migration patterns worldwide. As a part of her dissertation, she decided to conduct her research in rural, remote and sparsely populated areas in three countries and explore who’s migrating there, why and what could be the implications for the communities. Ana is interested in regional development in remote areas, causes and influential factors of migration processes, demographic and socio-economic change in rural/ remote areas, migration patterns and cultural awareness and diversity in this context. Ana has been actively collaborating with Mid North Knowledge Partnership since 2013, when she decided to spend one semester abroad at Flinders University during her Master Studies. Her MA thesis was based on that research and analysed the role of heritage tourism assets in rural migration decisions, based on the case studies from three towns in South Australia. Currently, she’s based in Northern Sweden and collaborating with Centre for Rural Medicine (GMC).
