Andreas Koch is Professor of Social Geography at University of Salzburg and vice chair of the Centre for Ethics and Poverty Research, Salzburg, Austria. He studied Geography, Political Sciences, and Spatial Planning at LMU Munich, Germany (with a Diploma thesis about processes of suburbanization of the agglomeration of Munich). His Ph.D. was dedicated to impacts of electronic banking on local neighbourhoods, which he did at RWTH Aachen, Germany. His habilitation, also finished at RWTH Aachen, was about system-theoretical spaces. His research interests cover topics of poverty and inequality in a spatial context, modelling and simulation, social network analysis, and demographic processes in sparsely populated areas.
