James is a PhD Candidate at Charles Darwin University. My background is in demography, population and development. My interest is in the capacity of policy to influence population dynamics. My  thesis is on the retention of population in sparsely populated areas, and how related policies might be improved. This research is closely connected to the retention of health and education professionals in remote and rural areas, and I hope through my research I can improve understanding of when and why people do or do not stay in these areas.
