Matthew Bishop
Scholar
Matthew is a final year medical student at Flinders University in South Australia. Prior to moving to Adelaide, he spent several years working with a team under the Ministry of Health in his native New Zealand in the field of rural healthcare development. His keen interest in rural health developed more recently into a clinical interest after spending 2017 in rural South Australia working as a trainee doctor where he developed an understanding of both the benefits and the difficulties rural communities face in accessing and receiving optimal healthcare. As a Free Range scholar, Matthew builds upon his research into the use of eHealth initiatives to bridge the physical gap between rural communities and the healthcare services offered in bigger centres, focusing in particular on factors that may contribute to a given initiative’s long-term success.
