News about the Graduate Diploma in Conflict Resolution (GDCR) as of Winter 2019:

In 2016, the Department of Law and Legal Studies re-launched the GDCR as a three year pilot project. The pilot project period comes to a close at the end of the current academic year and the Department, together with the Faculty of Public Affairs and the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies of Carleton University, have decided not to continue the program in its current form.

While there is significant interest in graduate education in conflict resolution in general, and in the graduate courses offered by the Department in particular, we have determined that the current structure of the GDCR program, including course requirements and pricing, are not in line with competitor programs and do not meet the expressed preferences of many potential students. As a result, we have decided to suspend new admissions to the GDCR program while we consider a better model for offering graduate programming in conflict resolution.

Course offerings will also be affected during this period, with significantly fewer courses being offered in the coming year. Students currently enrolled in the program who have not yet completed all program requirements will be offered a pathway to completion of the Graduate Diploma and they are invited to contact the program Director, Rebecca Bromwich about specific arrangements to be made in each individual case.

The Department looks forward to exploring exciting, contemporary ways of delivering the quality experiential, theoretically-engaged programming for which Carleton’s Conflict Resolution program has been known for over twenty years. We welcome any suggestions about the best way to deliver our graduate programming in conflict resolution.
