Module 1: The ABC of Podcasting<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This workshop focuses on the nuts and bolts of the podcasting industry. It begins with a tour of the School of Journalism and Communication’s audio studios. The facilitator discusses popular podcast formats, production workflows, and best practices. Through individual coaching and group activities, this module helps participants conceptualize and develop their own podcasting project. They define their purpose, identify their audience, craft their key messages, and brainstorm content ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Module 2: Planning Your First Podcast<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this workshop, participants fine tune the podcasting project they envisioned in Module 1. They learn to research and develop story ideas, find guests, and plan a recording session. Hands-on exercises include oral pitches and script writing. The facilitator provides each participant with personalized feedback on their work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Module 3: Interviewing and Recording Techniques<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Designed as an interactive workshop, this session introduces participants to interviewing and recording techniques. They learn about the various types of microphones and recording devices used in podcasting. While the emphasis is placed on studio recording, the facilitator briefly discusses field recording techniques. Working in small groups, participants then “simulate” a recording session. They take turns acting as the episode’s host, guest, producer, and technician. This module aims to help participants hone their interviewing skills and give them the confidence to operate recording equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Module 4: Editing Your First Episode<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this session, each participant edits a short podcast episode using the material recorded in Module 3. They are also sensitized to ethical, legal, and technical considerations in podcasting. This workshop covers audio post-production, copyright issues, royalty-free jingles, and storytelling techniques. While it includes some theory, this session is designed as a hands-on activity to help participants hone their audio editing skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Module 5: Publishing and Promoting Your Podcast<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recording and editing a podcast is only the beginning. We must then make sure that it can be discovered by our intended audience. This module teaches participants how to write show notes and create artwork for their podcasting project. The facilitator discusses distribution, promotion, and marketing techniques. Participants learn about hosting services, RSS feeds, etc. The workshop concludes with a listening session during which participants will present their work to the rest of the group.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
