She is also an associate graduate faculty member with the Centre of Applied Psychology and Human Development, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto. She has been an inaugural member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/fprc\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/fprc\/\">Forensic Psychology Research Centre (FPRC)<\/a> since 2008 and\u00a0currently\u00a0serves\u00a0as\u00a0co-Director. Shelley also chaired the Psychology Department\u2019s research ethics board from 2012 to 2014 as well as the University wide research ethics board from 2015 to 2017.\u00a0Shelley is currently a board member\u00a0with\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myiacfp.org\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.myiacfp.org\/\">International\u00a0Association for\u00a0Correctional\u00a0and\u00a0Forensic Psychology (IACFP)<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Brown\u00a0obtained her Ph.D. in 2002 from Queens University in forensic psychology. Shelley\u2019s dissertation examined the dynamic re-assessment of risk and need factors among men on parole. Following a 10-year research career with the Correctional Service of Canada, she joined Carleton University in 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Brown\u2019s\u00a0program of research aims to improve rehabilitative services including assessment, custodial, and probation practices for justice\u00a0impacted\u00a0people with a special focus on girls and women in conflict with the law. Shelley\u00a0studies\u00a0complex trauma, violence,\u00a0strengths, risk assessment and desistance among justice-impacted girls and women, and more recently, among under-represented genders and sexual minorities. She collaborates with researchers and practitioners at\u00a0the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Toronto Canada, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, Toronto, Canada, Orbis Partners, Ottawa, Canada, the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General, the\u00a0Department\u00a0of\u00a0Sociology, PMAS-Arid Agriculture University\u00a0(Pakistan),\u00a0and the Centre for Effective Public Policy(United States).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Brown&nbsp;has published various&nbsp;journal&nbsp;articles, reports, book chapters,&nbsp;and books about criminal conduct&nbsp;and&nbsp;works specific to justice-impacted girls and women.&nbsp;A recent publication includes the edited volume:&nbsp;<em>The Wiley handbook on what works with girls and women in conflict with the law: A critical review of theory, practice, and policy&nbsp;<\/em>(Brown &amp;&nbsp;Gelsthorpe, 2022<em>).<\/em>&nbsp;Her&nbsp;research&nbsp;has been funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), Public Safety,&nbsp;the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General,&nbsp;and Correctional Service of Canada.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Brown&nbsp;teaches courses in criminal behaviour&nbsp;and&nbsp;gender and&nbsp;crime and&nbsp;supervises an active team of undergraduate and graduate students engaged in gender responsive corrections-based research.&nbsp;She has received&nbsp;awards for&nbsp;teaching, research achievement, and student mentoring.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"contact\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Contact<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong><a href=\"mailto:shelleybrown@cunet.carleton.ca\">Email<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/shell_40?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/shelley-brown-8862b035\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Linkedin<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Who is Shelley Brown?
