King"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"mb-6 cu-pageheader cu-component-updated md:mb-12\">\n    <h1 class=\"cu-prose-first-last font-semibold !mt-2 mb-4 md:mb-6 text-3xl md:text-4xl lg:text-5xl lg:leading-[3.5rem] relative after:absolute after:h-px after:bottom-0 pb-5 after:w-10 after:bg-cu-red after:left-px\">\n                    \n             \n                \n            <\/h1>\n\n    \n    <\/header>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"condolences-and-memories-of-dr-doug-king\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/geography\/condolences-and-memories-of-dr-doug-king\/\">Condolences and Memories of Dr. Doug King<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/geography\/selection-of-available-papers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Publications<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"biography\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Biography<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pioneered development of airborne multispectral airborne video and digital camera sensors in the 1980s and 1990s for local environmental applications.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Current research includes high resolution UAV to satellite scale imaging for vegetation composition, structure, productivity and health modelling, mapping and monitoring in forest, wetland, agriculture and tundra environments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Projects include analysis of image spectral, spatial, temporal, radiometric fraction and object-derived metrics as well as GIS-based geo-spatial\/temporal metrics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"research\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Farmland biodiversity and landscape spatial-temporal dynamics (Niloofar Alavi, PhD); part of NSERC Strategic Project with Lenore Fahrig (Biology); Scott Mitchell and Kathryn Lindsay (Adjunct) (see publications and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.glel.carleton.ca\/\">http:\/\/www.glel.carleton.ca\/<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wetland vegetation-hydrology interactions (co-supervised with Murray Richardson; Ambika Paudel, PhD)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improving classification of land use\/land cover in grassland-forage areas (co-supervised with Andrew Davidson AAFC; Emily Lindsay, PhD)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chlorophyll and plant area index mapping in arctic tundra using empirical and physically based models with multi-angle hyperspectral field and image data (Blair Kennedy, PhD)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Linking earth observations to peatland ecosystem carbon fluxes in the Hudson Bay lowlands (Jason Beaver, MSc; co-supervised with Elyn Humphreys).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"early-career-research\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Early Career Research:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sugar maple decline assessment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Forest damage modelling and mapping at an abandoned mine site<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ice storm forest damage and post-storm dynamics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Development of a multivariate forest complexity index<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Forest change and trend analysis using Landsat time series<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Automated tree crown detection and delineation in regenerating forests<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Species at risk habitat mapping (e.g., hooded warbler; Blanding\u2019s turtle; chorus frog)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wetland mapping and temporal analysis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Radar applications in wetland mapping, arctic substrate mapping, Phragmites detection, sea ice tracking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other applications in water, agriculture, sensors, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thanks to the many grad students and post docs on these projects!
