A bequest—a donation of property, money or a percentage or residue of your estate specified in your will—is an effective way to make a donation that offers great flexibility and provides you and your family with significant tax benefits.
Tips for donors:
- Let your charity know if you have made a bequest so that you can be thanked now for your generosity and included in the many benefits your charity offers to donors.
- Please consult your lawyer about drafting or revising your will. The receipt issued for the bequest will result in a tax credit that may be claimed for up to 100 per cent of your taxable income in the year of death and the preceding year.
