There is a \u201cbuddies\u201d program apart of Macquarie that run events throughout the semester designed specifically for Exchange\/International students, where they go on day trips to classic Sydney tourist spots such as the Opera house and Bondi beach, so I highly recommend attending them. Also, before classes start they have a kickstart week that\u2019s very similar to Carleton\u2019s Frosh week where there\u2019s a club fair with all the clubs\/societies, so you can definitely find something you\u2019ll like there.&#8221; &#8211; <em class=\"myprefix-text-italic\">Winter 2025, Bachelor of Computer Science<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There were a lot of services available, for example academic support, where there will be staff from the exchange team that will check up on you, and they will respond quickly to get all your questions answered and support you in any way you need during the time of your exchange. If you feel stressed or overwhelmed or you just need someone to talk to, there will be always someone on campus for you to go and get support.&#8221; <em>&#8211; Winter 2024, Bachelor of Global and International Studies<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Macquarie offers academic support for student with IEP\u2019s and mental health resources such as counselling and group therapy were offered as part of your enrollment. Students Campus life was amazing. Thanks to the exchange society, you can make connections with your peers. They plan daytrips (such as going to surfing lessons at Manly beach) and day\/evening events. I took part is scavengers hunts, amazing races, and much more. One thing I will say however is that the overall teaching style generally expects a lot of self-learning and looking into topics outside of what\u2019s covered during class time.&#8221; &#8211; <em class=\"myprefix-text-italic\">Winter 2025, Bachelor of Computer Science<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The academic advisors at your home university will help you out, and then when you arrive at your host university, you can contact the academic advisors there. Once you know how the system works, and what courses you are taking, it will be easier for you. I was happy with the rental that I found, but I will admit it is quite a gamble when using flatmates.com because you can\u2019t be sure of the house\/room quality. Overall, my best recommendation is to try and find a place near the campus to save on money and time spent in transit.&#8221; &#8211; <em class=\"myprefix-text-italic\">Winter 2025, Bachelor of Computer Science<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I lived in a house with roommates, a walking distance to the host university. For the 1 semester that I was there, I was very happy with the place I chose to live. The house search was a bit difficult, because I had no clue what I was looking for, but I suggest using the resources that your host university provides and their suggestions. I recommend Mainstay Boarding House because the house itself is modern, and you will feel like that you are in your own home, and comfortable. The owners of the place are really nice, and you can contact them anytime.&#8221; <em>&#8211; Winter 2024, Bachelor of Global and International Studies<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I lived in the Macquarie student village. There was a bus stop right outside the village as well as a shuttle bus to campus. Public transit is very easy to figure out. For my cell phone I just went to a local grocery store (such as Woolworths or Coles, these two grocery stores have a completely monopoly in Australia) that sell pre-paid SIM cards and got one offered by Telstra.&#8221; &#8211; <em class=\"myprefix-text-italic\">Winter 2025, Bachelor of Computer Science<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I found a local bank, and you tell them that you are on exchange, and how long you are staying in the country, and that you need a temporary account. Almost same idea, search around the data company, find the cheapest one, it\u2019s better to have a local number to contact local people.&#8221; <em>&#8211; Winter 2024, Bachelor of Global and International Studies<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I applied online with Commonwealth Bank and then once I arrived, I went in person to finalize my account. You will need your passport and Visa for this process. For my cell phone, I purchased a 6-month prepaid sim card from Optus. Some of the nicest beaches I\u2019ve ever seen, and you\u2019ll likely see some local Australian wildlife like wallabies as well! Visiting Blue Mountain is also a must that many locals will recommend. In terms of shopping for souvenirs the absolute best location to do this is at Paddy\u2019s Market; they have the best prices by far. Also if you have the budget for it and if you\u2019ve never been to Australia before then this is the perfect opportunity to explore Australia in-general and fly to various major cities, like Melbourne and Brisbane!&#8221; &#8211; <em class=\"myprefix-text-italic\">Winter 2025, Bachelor of Computer Science<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Make sure you have your country\u2019s plug converter, and make sure you have your study visa all set, and approved, bring all your necessary documents on you when travelling.&#8221; <em>&#8211; Winter 2024, Bachelor of Global and International Studies<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I highly recommend going to the blue mountains. They have a great youth hostel that is close to all the hikes. Australia has a great public transit system, and it is very easy to take to train anywhere you&#8217;d like.
