I quite enjoyed the program and made a lot of friends because of it. The class expectations aren\u2019t too different (respect is key) but don\u2019t be shy to participate even if your class is in Spanish and you don\u2019t speak it perfectly, people understand. The adjustment is much easier when you clarify to the professor early on that you\u2019re an exchange student, as they can explain<br>things for you, relate things to Canada (if they have knowledge on it), and help you with any questions.&#8221; &#8211; <em class=\"myprefix-text-italic\">Winter 2025, Bachelor of Law and Legal Studies<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The adjustment was a bit challenging to me, since the organizational style was very different. The final exams were worth most of your grade. I will say if people ask you to move the conversation to WhatsApp, don\u2019t think they\u2019re scammers, its normal. If you do get a contract, translate it before signing (someone reads it for you or translate it yourself, whatever). Its more normal (especially for exchange students) to not be introduced to each other before moving in,<br>its a really random process, but I&#8217;d recommend you ask if you can have the number of one to text before coming.&#8221; &#8211; <em class=\"myprefix-text-italic\">Winter 2025, Bachelor of Law and Legal Studies<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Since there were 3 of us from Carleton that went to the University of Malaga, we decided to rent an apartment with 3 rooms, which was a very good idea in my opinion. The price was fair, and the apartment was beautiful. We had a great relationship with our landlord, and the experience was pretty smooth. The housing search was a bit challenging, and took a lot of our time, but since we were 3, we managed to divide the tasks and make the experience pretty smooth. We had many calls with different landlords, and picked our favorite based on the price, location and friendliness of the landlord. They need proof of address to mail you your card, but honestly you can use debit machines only with the app, so I never ended up doing that. I used my CIBC credit card to pay for everything, TD debit to take out cash (recommend going to Unicaja bank as it has no fee compared to the others), but had friends who used Wise and just transferred funds using the app every time they made a purchase for a more accurate exchange rate.&#8221;- <em class=\"myprefix-text-italic\">Winter 2025, Bachelor of Law and Legal Studies<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I opted for an online bank account with the platform Wise, which was very user friendly, and gave me options with many different currencies. As for my phone plan, I used Lobster, which I had to buy a sim card for, the rest of the process was online. Book in advance &#8211; if you get an ESN card they offer travel company discounts like flixbus, alsa bus, renfe, and ryanair (register as fast as you can for that last one on their website because there\u2019s a buffer period). Search up the trips ESN and Malaga South Experiences offer, especially the last one has super fun options. Or plan stuff yourself- take advantage of cheap European travel!! Within the Malaga area\/Spain, I would visit: one of the white towns (benalmadena, estepona etc), Marbella, Fuengirola and Torremolinos for beach, Cadiz for history and surf, Cordoba, Sevilla, Granada and of course Madrid (and Segovia while you\u2019re there) and Barcelona.&#8221; &#8211; <em class=\"myprefix-text-italic\">Winter 2025, Bachelor of Law and Legal Studies<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;My tips are to use sky scanner to find the cheapest flights and hostel world to find the cheapest accommodations. Make travel friends, as it is more fun to travel with others, and less scary. Be open to new experiences and go with the flow. Talk to strangers, and don\u2019t be scared to make mistakes, as it is how you learn! Be flexible with your dates and destinations to make the most of it with your budget!
