Financial Skills: Debt and Credit Scores

This workshop will cover the ins and outs of credit cards, lines of credit, loans, and the benefits of debt consolidation. Participants will learn how to select the best credit card given their specific circumstances, various options open to them to repay their student loans, and how lines of credit work. Various strategies to help you pay off your debts will be reviewed and the important link between debt-utilization and credit scores will be highlighted. Finally, you will learn how to save tens of thousands of dollars by initially increasing, then maintaining, a good credit score and how to obtain a free yearly credit report.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn about different types of debt (credit cards, personal loans, lines of credit, and payday loans).
  • Acquire strategies to pay off your debts more effectively (debt consolidation, snowball method, and debt avalanche method).
  • Identify important aspects of credit scores, learn how to boost them, and how to obtain a yearly free copy of your credit reports.

Note: While not required, it is recommended to attend both Budgeting and Expense Planning and Debt and Credit Scores, your schedule permitting, in order to get the most out of these workshops.
