William V. Harris is Shepherd Professor of History and Director of the Center for the Ancient Mediterranean at Columbia University, New York. He has written about a wide range of topics in ancient history, including imperialism, literacy, and the environment. In 2011 he published Rome’s Imperial Economy (Oxford) and he continues to work on the financial systems of the ancient world.
