Carleton will be hosting its second annual Life Sciences Day on Wednesday, May 30th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the second level conference rooms and atrium of Richcraft Hall (formerly River Building). The event will showcase the university’s activities to a broad audience drawn from the Carleton community, government agencies and the private sector. With a target of over 250 attendees, the university aims to bring together academic, government and industry sectors to build awareness of the important work encompassed by Life Sciences at Carleton.
Life Sciences Day will showcase Carleton’s activities in the Life Sciences in the broadest sense, providing a unique opportunity for students and researchers in Life Sciences to meet and explore partnership possibilities with the industry and government attendees. This multidisciplinary event will bring together research from multiple faculties, including the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Engineering and Design, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Public Affairs.
Event Program:
The Life Sciences Day Program will include a keynote presentation, exciting panel discussions, innovative research presentations, and program demonstrations. The event will also include a Poster Competition, where 50 students will be selected and provided with an opportunity to present their research in the areas of:
- Healthy Populations
- Healthy Planet
- Healthy Living
Throughout the day, student posters will be showcased, with cash prizes being awarded to all three groups (undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral) as judged by an external committee. To submit a poster for consideration to be presented at Life Sciences Day, please complete the Life Sciences Day Poster Submission Form by Wednesday, May 9, 2018. Those selected to enter the competition will be notified by May 11th.
Parallel presentations by Carleton researchers will underscore the variety of Life Sciences research ongoing at Carleton across all Faculties. Following a networking lunch and poster viewing, an exploration of industry needs and partnership potential will be explored by a panel discussion of members of the Life Sciences industry in Ontario.
A mid-afternoon reception will allow networking time to further investigate areas of potential interest among attendees. Business and industry participants will also have the opportunity to meet with students through a facilitated networking program. Industry, life science organizations and government agencies will be invited to participate in this novel event.
