Research Highlights

The Global Water Institute would like to congratulate Biology professor Lenore Fahrig on her appointment to the Royal Society of Canada, one of the highest honours bestowed for Canadian research excellence. Professor Fahrig is a world leader at the interface of landscape ecology and conservation biology. She introduced the concept of habitat connectivity, and produced the first evidence for wildlife movement corridors. She showed that habitat loss effects are much stronger than habitat fragmentation effects, causing a paradigm shift in habitat fragmentation research and application. Her work has also profoundly influenced the fields of road ecology and sustainable agricultural landscapes. [The Royal Society of Canada 2016]

We would also like to congratulate Earth Sciences professor Claudia Shroder-Adams, who was awarded a Mercator Fellowship from the German research foundation Deutshe Forschungsgemeinschaft. The fellowship allowed Professor Shroder-Adams to spend three months working on Arctic research at the University of Frankfurt.
