Shopify is hosting two presentations followed by an office tour for the Carleton HCI community. All are welcome!
Presentations:
Biz Sanford (Product Content Strategy at Shopify)
Biz will give an overview of the UX disciplines at Shopify and some of the problems we’re working on. You’ll learn how content strategy, design, front end development, and research work together to build amazing products for Shopify merchants.
Jon Wade (VR/AR Research and Development at Shopify)
Jon will talk about virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) user experience research and how we can improve usability of these technologies through testing. What type of problems to people have with motion controllers? How do people perceive scale of objects in VR? We’ll find out!
Participants are asked to make their own way to Shopify. Please arrive no later than 12:20pm to check-in
About the speakers:
Biz Sanford
Biz is a Content Strategist on the UX team at Shopify in Ottawa, Canada.
I spend my days doing content audits, user flows, wireframe sketches, and copywriting alongside designers, developers, product managers, and researchers. Together we create products and tools that help over 400,000 Shopify entrepreneurs grow their businesses.
Before joining Shopify, I worked for several Canadian government departments, like Service Canada, where I helped build a user-centered culture across the government and develop the usability strategy for Canada.ca.
Jon Wade
Jon has experience in tackling the technical and human factors challenges in creating engaging virtual experiences. Over a decade working in multi-disciplinary environments on projects ranging from graduate level cognitive science and psychology experimentation to distributed flight simulation devices for research and training. Focuses on software development that is informed by hardware trends, prevailing software development practices and tool sets, and the findings of human factors research.
