Position Title: Health Promotion Team Leader
Number of Positions: 2
Salary: $14/hour – 5 hours/week minimum (with opportunity to work more)

Job Description: Carleton University Health and Counselling Services is looking for enthusiastic and outgoing students interested in promoting health and wellness on campus for the 2020-2021 school year. Under the supervision of the Health Promotion Coordinator (HPC), 4 student Team Leaders empower students during various stages of change for healthy living and academic success by offering resources, services, programs, and activities that touch on student wellness and health topics (including mental health, sexual health, drugs/alcohol, nutrition, physical activity, sleep and more).

Core Responsibilities
– Staff display tables, run large health events/fairs on a weekly/monthly basis
– Facilitate workshops and classroom presentations on health and wellness topics
– Attend weekly team meetings led by the Health Promotion Coordinator to review the week’s activities, plan upcoming events, provide feedback and socialize with team members
– Assist and support the Health Promotion Coordinator on designing various evidence-based health campaign materials
– Actively participate in ongoing training to increase knowledge of health and wellness issues

Qualifications: The ideal Team Leader candidate will meet the following qualifications:
– Enrolled in full-time studies at Carleton University for the 2018-2019 school year
– Preference will be given to students who can stay with the team multiple years
– Skilled at networking and being an outgoing, energetic member on campus
– A desire to be part of a team of students
– Excellent communication, interpersonal, and group process skills
– Strong comfort level with speaking/presenting/facilitating with a group of peers
– Effective decision making and problem solving skills
– Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member
– Knowledge of the University, its administrative processes, and the various services and resources that are offered to students
– Sensitivity to the needs of Carleton University students
– Recognition and respect for the level of confidentiality required to work in a health care setting
– Ability to be an ambassador for both Health and Counselling Services and Carleton University, promoting positive values
Additional Information: The Team Leader is expected to work 5 hours/week from late August to late March. There is great flexibility in the scheduled hours with the ability to pick up more or less shifts. There is a mandatory 8-hour training session scheduled for the week before school starts usually on the Thursday before the September long weekend. Please ensure availability around that time.
