Health Sciences Anti-Racism and Equity Working Group
Mission Statement
To represent the students in the Department of Health Sciences and work collaboratively with faculty and staff to take strategic action towards dismantling systemic racism.
About the Working Group
This advisory group meets bi-weekly/monthly in a collaborative effort to gain insight on student, faculty, and staff perspectives on issues related to challenging issues of racism. These meetings provide opportunities to brainstorm initiatives to help further anti-racism awareness and education within the department – including the development of strategic initiatives and resources. Considering the numerous obligations of students, the aim is a student driven working group that is supported by faculty, staff and administrators. We will take an intersectional approach to this work. Students passionate about anti-racism, equity, and ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all within the Department of Health Sciences are welcome to join.
To learn more about the important work of this group or to get involved contact undergraduate student Erika Uzoegwu (erikauzoegwu@cmail.carleton.ca, graduate student Maddy Sheppard-Perkins MaddySheppardPerkins@cmail.carleton.ca, or faculty member Dr. Francine Darroch (francinedarroch@carleton.ca).
The first meeting of the semester will be scheduled at the end of September.
