Under the supervision of Dr. Joerg Overhage, her doctoral research examines how the bacterium <em>Pseudomonas aeruginosa<\/em> responds to reactive chlorine species, including hypochlorous acid (HOCl)\u2014the main antimicrobial compound in household bleach and a part of the body\u2019s immune response to infection. Outside of the lab, Madison enjoys staying active, trying new restaurants, and watching movies.
