The application process requires that the prospective student and supervisor draft a proposal of the research thesis project to be included in the application package.<\/p>\n<p>In general, we encourage prospective students to take initiative and to reach out to individual faculty whose research aligns with the student\u2019s background, previous training and research interest. There has to be an alignment between the student and the faculty. You can find the list of core faculty and their research programs at our web site <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/healthsciences\/faculty-and-research\/\">https:\/\/carleton.ca\/healthsciences\/faculty-and-research\/<\/a> .<\/p>\n<p>When emailing a prospective supervisor, you must include 1) an up-to-date CV, 2) an unofficial transcript, 3) a statement of skills\/experience relevant to the prospective supervisor\u2019s research, and 4) a brief statement about why the student is interested in working with the supervisor. Also, if you are interested in the Data Science specialization, you must indicate this in your email, and be sure to ask your prospective supervisor if they are able to take on a student with the data science specialization.<\/p>\n<p>This email will provide the faculty with a better understanding of who you are and what background you have. Please note that if you do not hear back from a faculty member, it is possible that they are not interested, or they are not accepting new students at this time.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-what-should-be-included-in-my-statement-of-intent\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-what-should-be-included-in-my-statement-of-intent\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">What should be included in my Statement of Intent?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-what-should-be-included-in-my-statement-of-intent\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>The statement of intent is to be written in consultation with the proposed faculty supervisor from the Department of Health Sciences.\u00a0 Please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/healthsciences\/current-students\/forms-guidelines-and-documents\/\">forms page<\/a> for the <strong>Thesis Research Proposal (Statement of Intent) and Supervisor Agreement Template for HS MSc and PhD<\/strong>.\u00a0 This 1-page document must include: <strong>1)<\/strong> an abstract of the proposed MSc research thesis program (background\/rationale, research question(s), aim(s) and <strong>2)<\/strong> supervisor information (name, contact information and statement from the proposed supervisor acknowledging commitment to supervise and fund the student for the proposed thesis program. Both proposed supervisor(s) and student must sign the form.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-what-gpa-should-i-have-to-be-considered-for-the-program\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-what-gpa-should-i-have-to-be-considered-for-the-program\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">What GPA should I have to be considered for the program?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-what-gpa-should-i-have-to-be-considered-for-the-program\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>All applicants must have a minimum Grade Point Average of 9.0\/12.0 (B+ average) over the last 2 years of full time study, to be considered for the program.\u00a0 However, the program is highly competitive and thus most of our successful applicants will have a GPA closer to a 10.0 (A-).<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-when-is-the-deadline-for-applications\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-when-is-the-deadline-for-applications\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">When is the deadline for applications?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-when-is-the-deadline-for-applications\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"215\"><strong>Program Start Date<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"423\"><strong>Application Deadline<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td rowspan=\"2\" width=\"215\">Fall Term (September):<\/td>\n<td width=\"423\">February 1: For international and domestic applicants<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"423\">August 1: To be considered if space and funds remain<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td rowspan=\"2\" width=\"215\">Winter Term (January):<\/td>\n<td width=\"423\">October 1: For international and domestic applicants<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"423\">December 1: To be considered if space and funds remain<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td rowspan=\"2\" width=\"215\">Summer Term (May):<\/td>\n<td width=\"423\">March 1: For international and domestic applicants<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"423\">April 1: To be considered if space and funds remain<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-do-i-need-to-submit-my-gre-score-with-my-application\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-do-i-need-to-submit-my-gre-score-with-my-application\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Do I need to submit my GRE score with my application?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-do-i-need-to-submit-my-gre-score-with-my-application\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>GRE scores are not required for applications to the graduate programs in the Department of Health Sciences.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-do-i-need-to-submit-official-transcripts-with-my-application\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-do-i-need-to-submit-official-transcripts-with-my-application\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Do I need to submit official transcripts with my application?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-do-i-need-to-submit-official-transcripts-with-my-application\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>Official transcripts (and\/or WES evaluations) are not required at the time of the application.\u00a0 Applicants must scan copies of their original transcripts and upload them to their online application.\u00a0 If an applicant is successful, a conditional offer of admission will be given, and candidates must make arrangements to have officially conferred degrees and transcripts (or WES evaluations) sent directly to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs prior to enrollment in their graduate program.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-i-have-been-working-in-the-health-sector-for-several-years-do-my-references-need-to-be-academic\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-i-have-been-working-in-the-health-sector-for-several-years-do-my-references-need-to-be-academic\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">I have been working in the health sector for several years. Do my references need to be academic?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-i-have-been-working-in-the-health-sector-for-several-years-do-my-references-need-to-be-academic\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>Applicants who have been in the work force for a number of years may choose to provide professional referees.\u00a0 Keeping in mind that academic references are typically preferred, as there are questions on the referee form that refer to the applicants skills and experience as an academic student.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-can-i-complete-the-msc-in-health-sciences-on-a-part-time-basis\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-can-i-complete-the-msc-in-health-sciences-on-a-part-time-basis\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Can I complete the MSc in Health Sciences on a part-time basis?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-can-i-complete-the-msc-in-health-sciences-on-a-part-time-basis\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>Graduate student status is determined at the time of the application and most of our students will be admitted on a full-time basis.\u00a0 From time-to-time students have been approved for part-time status, and this has been granted on a case-by-case basis, determined in consolation with their thesis supervisor at the time of the application..<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-on-average-how-many-students-do-you-admit-into-the-msc-in-health-sciences-each-year\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-on-average-how-many-students-do-you-admit-into-the-msc-in-health-sciences-each-year\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">On average, how many students do you admit into the MSc in Health Sciences each year?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-on-average-how-many-students-do-you-admit-into-the-msc-in-health-sciences-each-year\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>Admission into the MSc in Health Sciences is entirely dependent on the needs of our faculty members, and the available positions in their research labs.\u00a0 Admission numbers will vary from year to year, depending on our faculty needs.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-what-academic-background-is-required-to-apply-for-the-msc-in-health-sciences\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-what-academic-background-is-required-to-apply-for-the-msc-in-health-sciences\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">What academic background is required to apply for the MSC in Health Sciences?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-what-academic-background-is-required-to-apply-for-the-msc-in-health-sciences\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>All applicants must have completed at least a 4 year (honours) bachelors degree to be considered for the program.\u00a0\u00a0Typically applicants will have completed a Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field (e.g. Science, Life\/Health Sciences, Psychology, Biostatistics, or related discipline), however a BSc is not mandatory.\u00a0\u00a0Because of the interdisciplinary nature of our department, prospective applicants are encouraged to discuss their academic background and eligibility with their prospective supervisor.
