Hosted by The Office of Quality Initiatives in collaboration with Healthy Workplace, this two-part workshop is designed to equip Carleton University managers <\/strong>with the knowledge and skills necessary to support mental health in the workplace. Participants will learn to distinguish between mental health and mental illness, recognize and reduce stigma, and implement proactive strategies to foster a healthy work environment. Additionally, managers will gain practical tools for identifying and addressing mental health concerns among team members, ensuring a supportive and productive workplace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This two-part workshop provides new managers with a solid foundation in understanding mental health in the workplace. For experienced managers, this workshop is a valuable opportunity to refresh your knowledge, learn about the latest strategies and best practices, and reflect on your current methods. This is a valuable opportunity for managers to connect with other managers, share experiences, and build a supportive network.

Objectives:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Module 1: Mental Health in the Workplace <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

  • Distinguish between mental health and mental illness:<\/strong> Understand the differences and how they impact employees. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Review the continuum model of mental health:<\/strong> Learn about the spectrum of mental health and how it can fluctuate. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Recognize stigma as a barrier to getting help:<\/strong> Discuss the impact of stigma and strategies to reduce it in the workplace. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Identify proactive strategies for creating a healthy work environment:<\/strong> Explore ways to support mental health and well-being at work. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Module 2: Your Role in Supporting Team Members <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    • Identify and assess potential mental health concerns:<\/strong> Learn to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health issues in the workplace. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Understand your role as a manager:<\/strong> Gain clarity on your responsibilities in addressing mental health concerns. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Use a framework for navigating conversations:<\/strong> Develop skills for having sensitive and effective conversations about mental health with team members. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Discuss management strategies for supporting well-being:<\/strong> Explore various approaches to support the mental health and well-being of your team. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Apply knowledge to typical workplace scenarios:<\/strong> Practice applying what you\u2019ve learned to real-life situations. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
