Students in the NSERC CREATE Heritage Engineering Program are expected to:

  • Achieve the learning outcomes defined by the Program Committee for the program
  • Actively participate in NSERC CREATE activities including the Heritage Forum, the Montreal Round Table, technical workshops and other activities identified by the Program Director
  • Participate in at least one Mitacs Steps Professional Skills workshop per term.
  • Report on NSERC CREATE activities, including the Heritage Forum, internships and workshops
  • Use cuPortfolio, as directed, to present and reflect on their work and learning experiences
  • enroll in the NSERC CREATE Heritage Engineering core course offered in Fall term
  • Develop a problem statement based on the issues and gaps in research identified in the Heritage Forum, that includes: the gap/issue being addressed; an initial idea of how it will be addressed; and a literature review
  • Conduct a four-month internship with a partner organization in each year of the grant, relevant to their area of research
  • Publish a paper in a peer-reviewed publication (including conference proceedings and journals) relevant to their area of research
  • Conduct research and produce a thesis that addresses the issue/gap identified in their problem statement
  • Work with their co-supervisors, internship placements and fellow students to maximize their learning experience.

  • February & March, 2018 – Mitacs STEPS Professional Skills workshops
  • May – August 2018 – student internships with industry partners
  • September – December 2018 – CIVE5705 core course at Carleton University
