{"id":20,"date":"2015-10-06T14:32:58","date_gmt":"2015-10-06T14:32:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/heritageengineering\/?page_id=20"},"modified":"2019-04-12T16:33:22","modified_gmt":"2019-04-12T20:33:22","slug":"program-outline","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/heritageengineering\/program-outline\/","title":{"rendered":"Program Outline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The long-term objective of the NSERC CREATE Heritage Engineering program is to produce a cohort of trainees with technical and professional skills that are relevant to Canada\u2019s built heritage industry.<\/p>\n<p>The short-term training objectives of the program are to provide students with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Research experience in their core discipline (Civil &amp; Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer &amp; Systems Engineering, Industrial Design, Information Technology, Social Sciences or Architecture);<\/li>\n<li>An integrated training program in heritage conservation and documentation, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/heritageengineering\/core-course-cive5705\/\">core course<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Targeted <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/heritageengineering\/internships\/\">internships<\/a> with heritage professionals in the private and public sectors, including national and international organizations;<\/li>\n<li>Professional development <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/heritageengineering\/forums-workshops\/\">workshops<\/a> to be given by industry professionals outside the university including round tables and conferences on heritage conservation; and<\/li>\n<li>Annual one-day <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/heritageengineering\/forums-workshops\/\">Heritage Forums<\/a> at which private and public sector professionals and academics discuss gaps and issues that might be addressed through research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other key activities for students and fellows in the program include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>development of a cuPortfolio to showcase student learning and achievements;<\/li>\n<li>selection of a research topic and development of a Master&#8217;s or Ph.D. thesis within one of the three <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/heritageengineering\/research-tracks\/\">research tracks<\/a>; and<\/li>\n<li>for Postdoctoral Fellows only, carry out a proposal for research and dissemination of a topic in digital workflows for heritage conservation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The long-term objective of the NSERC CREATE Heritage Engineering program is to produce a cohort of trainees with technical and professional skills that are relevant to Canada\u2019s built heritage industry.
