Henrique Schlumberger Vitchmichen

Visiting Scholar (April 4-October 31, 2025)
he Department’s new Visiting Fellow, Henrique Schlumberger Vitchmichen, will be joining us as of Friday, April 4, 2025.
Henrique is a PhD student at the Federal University of Paraná (Brazil), currently studying human rights and humanitarian aid, especially for refugees. His main research circles around processes of disposal that happened in Ukraine after World War II, and how through correspondence between the refugee camps, and the Ukrainian Aid Committee, founded in the city of Curitiba, the capital of the state of Paraná, many people have emigrated to Brazil, and escaped Europe.
Home of a large community of Ukrainian descendants, both Canada and Brazil were in constant contact in that time, even contributing with financial aid, and together with many other Committees formed around the world, they contributed by helping the refugees’ cause. At Carleton University, his main activities will be researching the Ukrainian community in Canada, and how through correspondence between the Brazilian and Canadian Committees, their actions contributed to humanitarian aid.
