What is your favourite thing about the program?

After a 35-year hiatus from academia while I pursued a journalism career, the decision to return to Carleton in 2019 after retirement to earn an MA in history became a journey of enjoying the exploration of the past and particularly Canada’s past, its detail and the theories that help explain the country’s story. Having access to the experience and wisdom of the historians/teachers was an eye-opening joy.

What will you miss the most?

I miss the stimulation of the lectures and reading assignments and subsequent discussions among classmates and professors as well as the quiet study space available to grad students. Access to the helpful staff in the Library as I looked for the sources I needed also is a fond memory.

What is your favourite reading/book/text from the program?

Impossible to pick “favorites”

What’s next for you?

Retirement and a daily glance at the MA degree hanging on my study wall as I settle in for another day of after-career reading and book writing.
