What is your favourite thing about the program?

My favourite thing about the program has definitely been the professors! Everyone in the history department is super kind and whenever there was an issue they were always happy and eager to help. The profs are always understanding and so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the subjects and topics they teach. I quite enjoyed the ability to head up to a professor’s office hours to just chat with them (although I could’ve done without the hike up Patterson).

What will you miss the most?

I will miss the friends I have made in the program the most. Meeting like-minded individuals who have the same historical interests as you has been one of the best things about this program. It’s always exciting to learn new things from your peers and connect about some of your favourite moments and figures in history.

What is your favourite reading/book/text from the program?

One of my favourite books from the program has got to be Jana Hensel’s memoir After the Wall which I had the privilege to read for both Dr. Fraser’s course on Europe in the 20th Century and Prof. Evan’s 20th Century Germany. My favorite readings are the ones that allow us to dive in deep and look at individual stories and how they help to tell the broader history of a time period. I also greatly enjoyed the text from Prof. Klaussen’s class on Pandemics. It was a really interesting time to be studying past pandemics and similarities and differences to COVID-19.
