Carter Elwood attended Dartmouth College, the University of Edinburgh and Columbia University. He taught briefly at the University of Virginia, the University of Alberta and since 1968 at Carleton. He has also held visiting research appointments at St. Antony’s College (Oxford), the University of Fribourg, the London School of Economics and Harvard University. He teaches an annual undergraduate survey course in Russian history and an occasional seminar on the Russian Revolution. Dr. Elwood’s research interests revolve around V.I. Lenin and the Russian revolutionary movements prior to 1917. His most recent book, The Non-Geometric Lenin: Essays on the Development of the Bolshevik Party, 1910-1914, was published in London in 2011. He would be pleased to supervise graduate students with a reading knowledge of Russian who want to do research on some aspect of revolutionary history.
