When Berlin and football are spoken of in the same sentence, memories of corruption, hooliganism, the Stasi, and scandal are evoked. Yet, like many major European cities, football has long played an important part in the everyday life of Berliners. In my current project, I ask what Berlin’s fascinating football history can tell us about the postwar German history. I suggest that football\u2019s unique dynamism can help us view past the powerful image of the Berlin Wall as a symbol for division. Rather, it presented East and West Berliners with unique opportunities for interactions. By turning to these under-appreciated areas of interaction, I hope to uncover how simultaneous processes of entanglements and division characterized the experiences of East and West Berliners.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":11308,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"cu_people_first_name":"Emmanuel","cu_people_last_name":"Hogg","cu_people_initials":"","footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"cu_people_type":[64],"cu_people_expertise":[],"class_list":["post-3324","cu_people","type-cu_people","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","cu_people_type-contract_instructor"],"acf":{"cu_people_job_title":"Contract Instructor","cu_people_degree":"B.A. Hons, M.A. (Guelph), Ph.D. (Carleton)","cu_building":false,"cu_people_office_num":"","cu_people_pronoun":"none","cu_people_designation":"","cu_people_email":"emmanuelhogg@cmail.carleton.ca","cu_people_phone":"","cu_people_phone_ext":"","cu_people_linkedin":"","cu_people_bluesky":"","cu_people_twitter":"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EmmanuelHogg","cu_people_instagram":"","cu_people_facebook":"","cu_people_website":"","cu_people_orcid":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/cu_people\/3324","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/cu_people"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/cu_people"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/cu_people\/3324\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":16704,"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/cu_people\/3324\/revisions\/16704"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/11308"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=3324"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"cu_people_type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/cu_people_type?post=3324"},{"taxonomy":"cu_people_expertise","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/cu_people_expertise?post=3324"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
