Kovalio<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A<\/strong>. China , the&nbsp; second most populous state on earth and the third largest in geographical area ,is also&nbsp;&nbsp; one of a number of&nbsp; civilizations with a continued history of about 3000 years. This <strong>intensive<\/strong> course, although focused on the period since the <strong>1911<\/strong> [<em>Xinhai<\/em>] <strong>Revolution,<\/strong> starts with a brief introduction of earlier eras. The course subtitle refers to China\u2019s three major political regimes since the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century. Today\u2019s [People\u2019s Republic of ] China is a totalitarian, anti-democratic politico-social system with a successful State-capitalist economy \u2013 all dominated by the Chinese Communist (in name only) Party [CCP] under ruler Xi Jin-ping\u2019s \u201csocialism with Chinese characteristics for the new era,\u201d in fact <strong>a most intriguing system <\/strong>reminiscent of the <strong><em>Corporatist<\/em><\/strong> regimes&nbsp; of&nbsp; prewar Italy and Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>B<\/strong> \u2013 Each class starts with coverage of the latest news from China. <strong>Class atmosphere is most stimulating. <\/strong>However,<strong> <em>Social Networking and Texting in ANY form, as well as Eating<\/em> are allowed ONLY during breaks.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>C- GRADING<\/strong> contains two elements: <strong>1 <\/strong>\u2013 One in-class <strong>identification and<\/strong> <strong>definition test<\/strong>-worth 50% of the grade. <strong>2-<\/strong>One <strong><em>research <\/em>TYPEWRITTEN<\/strong> <strong>essay , worth the other 50% of the grade, due at term\u2019s end, and which should include: <\/strong>1 \u2013 A <strong>cover page<\/strong>. <strong>2<\/strong> \u2013 A <strong>summary page.<\/strong> <strong>3<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>Footnotes <\/strong>as citation style<strong>. 4<\/strong> \u2013 F<strong>ive sources<\/strong> \u2013 only ONE [ and not the main] <em>wikisource . <\/em><strong>5 <\/strong>\u2013 <strong>No<\/strong> mandatory length\u2013<strong><em>PARTICIPANTS MUST COMPLETE ALL ASSIGNMENTS IN ORDER TO BE IN GOOD STANDING. <\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>D<\/strong>&#8211; The main learning tool for the class is <strong><em>HIST 3805 : China since the Twentieth Century Learning Handbook \u2013 the <\/em>2025 Edition <\/strong>by Jacob Kovalio which will be available in the CU Bookstore by early August. The<strong><em> traditional <\/em><\/strong>text for the course is Jonathan D.
