Photo credit: Justin Tang.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/mds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carleton\u2019s MDS&nbsp;Steering Committee<\/a> have been working with international colleagues to publicize and help address the plight of the world&#8217;s growing refugee population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Dominique Marshall, the chair of History, noted that the MDS program encourages scholarship through an accessible system of grants. &#8220;It is with the active and attentive support of Dr. Daniel McNeil, for instance, that the Baha\u2019i community has planned a rich and promising colloquium on the history of the Baha\u2019i refugee movement for next September, housed in my unit, and lead by our alumni Dr. Anthony Michel<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MDS steering committee is keen to hear from colleagues at Carleton about the best ways to use the research award, and looks forward to continuing to support graduate and faculty research with its:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/mds\/cu_event\/october-12-call-for-papers-mds-graduate-student-colloquium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MDS Graduate Student Colloquium<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Deadline for abstracts to be submitted to&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:johnnyelalam@cmail.carleton.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Johnny Alam<\/a>,&nbsp;<span data-term=\"goog_699744597\">October 12.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/mds\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/td-fellowship.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Graduate Fellowship in Migration and Diaspora Studies<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Description:<\/strong>&nbsp;Awarded annually by the Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs to a full-time graduate student who is pursuing courses in Migration and Diaspora Studies. In the past two years alone, MDS has enabled a number of research events relevant to the mandate of EURUS (and) was also instrumental in adding a third faculty member with expertise in migration to EURUS.\u201d &#8212;<em>Achim Hurrelmann, Director, Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI highly recommend the MDS team for the Building Connections Research Prize.
