On Feb 3, 1916, fire struck the Parliament Buildings. By 3 pm the next day, Parliament had moved down the street, and settled in amongst the fossils, minerals and art of the newly built Victoria Memorial Museum, now the Canadian Museum of Nature. Parliament remained there for 4 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Canadian Museum of Nature and the International Association of Fire Fighters invite you to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the great Fire of Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of note to members of our history department, Carleton alumnus Dr. David Tough (Contract Instructor, Trent University) will present on some of the pressing questions of the early twentieth century, including women’s suffrage and the arrival of income taxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
