Three of Rod Phillips<\/a>‘s recent books appeared on ‘Best of 2017’ lists at the end of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9000 Years of Wine: A World History<\/a> was one of the ‘Best Books on Drink of 2017’ in The Guardian (UK), where it was described as “impeccably researched.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was also on the end-of-year select book list on jancisrobinson.com (UK), one of the most influential web sites in the wine world. The reviewer, Tamlyn Currran, wrote: “Phillips has written a rich, fascinating account of the history of this much-loved beverage, giving a whole new dimension to the way we look at it today… His calm, steady voice, peppered with humour, has a wonderful way of bringing history alive and making it intensely relevant.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9000 Years of Wine also won an award at the Gourmand Book Awards in China in December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Wines of Canada<\/a> was included in ‘Our Favorite Books of 2017’ in Wine Enthusiast magazine in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was also reviewed on Jancis Robinson’s web site, where the reviewer concluded: “This, as with all of Phillips’ books, is such a treasure trove of facts and interesting little nuggets of information that you could read it three times and spot something new each time. His wry humour never intrudes on the text, but you can spot it glimmering on a page here and there, as he quietly remarks on some irony or absurdity…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

[This] must surely be the most comprehensive, painstakingly detailed book on Canadian wine yet to have been published.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

French Wine: A History<\/a> was included in the ‘Best Drinks Books of 2017’ in the New Statesman (UK). The reviewer wrote, “This is addictively readable history, Phillips\u2019s easy style backed up by formidable research.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
