These are distinguished people from all branches of learning who have made remarkable contributions in the arts, humanities and sciences, as well as in Canadian public life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"240\" height=\"240\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2-Carleton-Norman-thumbnail-240x240.jpg\" alt=\"Norman Hillmer wearing the Order of Canada pin\" class=\"wp-image-17348\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2-Carleton-Norman-thumbnail-240x240.jpg 240w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2-Carleton-Norman-thumbnail-160x160.jpg 160w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2-Carleton-Norman-thumbnail-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2-Carleton-Norman-thumbnail-400x400.jpg 400w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2-Carleton-Norman-thumbnail-200x200.jpg 200w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2-Carleton-Norman-thumbnail-360x360.jpg 360w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2-Carleton-Norman-thumbnail.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Hillmer has been elected as a RSC Fellow by his peers in the Humanities Division of the Academy of Arts and Humanities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am very conscious of the honour and responsibility that comes with membership in the RSC,\u201d said Hillmer, Chancellor\u2019s professor in the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/\">Department of History<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/npsia\/\">Norman Paterson School of International Affairs<\/a>. \u201cSince I arrived in Ottawa, I have been supported by Blair Neatby, David Farr, Carter Elwood and a generous Carleton scholarly community that wanted the best for me and my research. I am grateful to all those who nominated and elected me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hillmer is currently writing <em>Canadian Peacekeeping: A Contradictory History<\/em>, the first full-scale account of Canada\u2019s peacekeeping role from the Middle East to Mali. The book will be published by the University of British Columbia Press.&nbsp;Last year, Hillmer published his 31st book, a critical examination of Justin Trudeau\u2019s foreign policy, edited with Carleton\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/npsia\/people\/philippe-lagasse\/\">Philippe Lagass\u00e9<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cook has been elected as a RSC Fellow by his peers in the Humanities Division of the Academy of Arts and Humanities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cook, adjunct professor in the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/people\/tim-cook\/\">Department of History<\/a>, has explored Canada and the world wars through his scholarship and exhibitions. His many award-winning books focus on the social and cultural history of Canadians and the contested means by which we remember and make meaning of conflict. His work as an historian at the Canadian War Museum and his media appearances have widely disseminated history to the Canadian public.
