The full article, &#8220;Explorer: War Games museum exhibit prompts you to consider big questions,&#8221; can be found online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>About 10 years ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/history\/people\/andrew-burtch\/\">Andrew Burtch<\/a>, a historian who works at Ottawa\u2019s Canadian War Museum had an idea about how to offer something that directly appealed to young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAfter observing and approaching groups of youth in our galleries discussing arms cases, it occurred to me their point of entry was because of video games like&nbsp;<i>Call of Duty<\/i>,\u201d said Burtch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Burtch is the post-1945 historian at the Canadian War Museum, and an adjunct research professor in Carleton University\u2019s history department. He\u2019s done a number of commemorative exhibitions, including one about the anniversary of the Korean War armistice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Burtch simmered on the idea for a few years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, after lots of development \u2013 and pandemic-related delays \u2013 Burtch and co-author Marie-Louise Deruaz saw the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.warmuseum.ca\/war-games\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span class=\"TextRun Underlined SCXW109529625 BCX2\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW109529625 BCX2\">War Games<\/span><\/span><\/a>&nbsp;exhibit open on June 9, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople can play video games at home,\u201d said Burtch. \u201cWhat we wanted to do was produce an experience where you couldn\u2019t get on the couch.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Why should you visit?<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The War Games exhibit offers five zones of history and play<b>&nbsp;<\/b>made possible by dozens of contributions from the CWM<b>&nbsp;<\/b>and Canadian Museum of History.<b><br>\n<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CWM also received a lot of interesting responses on the exhibit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They had a sizable amount of visitors and it is one of the more popular exhibits in recent years. Approximately 100,000 people came through between the summer and early fall.
