To all Members of the Carleton Community,

Late on Wednesday, the executive of CUPE 2424 notified the university of its intention to file for conciliation.

During the bargaining process, either the union or employer can ask the Ontario Ministry of Labour for help. The ministry then assigns a neutral, experienced third party whose mandate is to assist the parties in resolving their differences so that they can reach a collective agreement.

Talks between the university and the union have been respectful and productive. The parties have met seven times to date and the bargaining teams have been able to agree in several areas.  Bargaining is scheduled to continue over a series of dates this fall.

The university welcomes the assistance of a highly experienced conciliator in resolving the outstanding issues amicably, and in a fair and reasonable manner, so that the renewal of the collective agreement can be finalized.

The university is committed to bargaining in good faith with the union and will continue to provide updates to the community throughout the bargaining process to keep you informed.
