Working at Carleton
Carleton University is a community of talented, committed and enthusiastic faculty and staff, dedicated to excellence and to supporting the education and research that distinguishes Carleton as Canada’s Capital University. We know that it is our people that are key to Carleton’s success.
Here’s what some of our talented staff and faculty had to say about working at Carleton.
I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of Carleton both as a student and now as faculty. My feeling then and now is that the entire community is genuinely invested in my success. As a faculty member at Carleton, all my career development goals are fully supported. The Educational Development Centre provides new tools and ideas to innovate and excel in terms of my teaching. The staff at the Carleton University Research Office and the Research Facilitator in the Faculty of Science are always available to support my research, starting with alerting me of funding opportunities that match my research interests, to assistance with grant writing, to long term strategic planning. Carleton has even supported my leadership development through a new initiative called the Carleton Leader program. Carleton is fully invested in the growth and success of its faculty, staff, and students, and I’m privileged to be a part of this institution. – Maria, Faculty of Science
I feel very fortunate to work in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Carleton University. Having spent four years as a student at CU, I always told myself that if the opportunity ever presented itself I’d love to return. Why? Staff, faculty and students have been relentlessly supportive of every endeavour that I’ve taken on — including a recent decision to pursue a graduate degree. This kind of universal support gives Carleton a genuine ‘community feel’ and makes you really cheer for your colleagues to succeed on whatever path they happen to be on. There’s an energy to a university campus that’s difficult to describe – everyone around you is working on something challenging and unique, with the goal of social or self improvement – everyday I come across a reason to be inspired. I think that might be my favourite part of all. – Nick, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
There are many things I like about working at Carleton University: the people and the boundless talent they bring to every project; the variety of work and job opportunities within Carleton; the opportunity to continue developing your skills through the Career Development Fund; the everyday buzz of student life and activity on campus, as well as the beauty of our work environment. Not everyone can go for a walk or picnic along the Rideau River during their lunch hour. You can’t help but feel energized each day! – Pia, Department of University Advancement
I am proud to work at CU and feel privileged to be able to take advantage of the programs offered here at Carleton. Over a decade ago I attended my first workshop which was about navigating parenting children through their teenage years. Since then the walls in my workspace have been punctuated with professional development achievements in Social Media, Conflict Resolution, Business Communication Management and Grant Writing. As a Healthy Workplace participant I play ultimate Frisbee and volleyball every Thursday at lunch with some pretty great people. – Roz, Carleton University Research Office
Working at Carleton has provided me the opportunity to engage in meaningful work that I can provide a meaningful contribution to and see the direct impact. Every day I continue to learn and develop at the same time. Carleton is overflowing with Faculty and Staff who come to work and genuinely want to make a difference in lives of everyone in our community. – Amanda, Office of Quality Initiatives
To my mind there is nothing more important in society than the dedicated, meticulous search for knowledge and understanding. And that search defines what we all do at Carleton every single day, through research, teaching and learning. I’m inspired by the academic endeavor as a whole – work done on campus is expanding the boundaries of the arts, public affairs, sciences, engineering and business and I’m proud that my work plays a role in supporting the rich community of scholars responsible for those innovations. I’ve been working here for nearly 20 years and I’m as excited to come into work today as I was on my very first day. – Jen, Admissions Services
I like Carleton University because this job, other than broadening my horizons year after year, allows me to make a real impact in the lives of our many domestic students and in those attending Carleton from around the world. In addition, the excellent working conditions we enjoy added to the natural settings of our workplace are also contributing factors to my satisfaction and fulfillment. – Erenia, School of Information Technology
Carleton University has been a great place to work. The team that I have had the pleasure to lead and work with are fantastic. They go above and beyond in the customer service that they provide to prospective students, parents and guidance counsellors. I feel very lucky to work on a beautiful campus in a supportive work environment. – Jean, Undergraduate Recruitment
