Optometrists are currently reimbursed by the Ontario government for the cost of providing these services to OHIP covered patients. The association representing Ontario optometrists and the provincial government have been negotiating a new billing agreement over the past year with a deadline of September 1, 2021, after which optometrists would withdraw OHIP-covered services if a satisfactory agreement had not been reached. To date, an agreement has not been reached and press reports indicate that routine eye exam services are winding down or stopping as of September 1, 2021. Routine eye exams for the age groups in question continue to be listed OHIP services. Insurance carriers are prohibited from covering services already insured by the province. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Canada Life will continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as the situation unfolds.
