\n Important Information Regarding Extended Health Care Coverage (ON)\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

As of September 1, 2021, Ontario Optometrists have withdrawn services for routine eye exams covered under OHIP for those aged 19 and under and 65 and older. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Ontario, OHIP covers the cost of routine eye exams on a limited basis for those age 19 or under and age 65 or older (i.e., no coverage for anyone between 20 and 64). Optometrists are currently reimbursed by the Ontario government for the cost of providing these services to OHIP covered patients. The association representing Ontario optometrists and the provincial government have been negotiating a new billing agreement over the past year with a deadline of September 1, 2021, after which optometrists would withdraw OHIP-covered services if a satisfactory agreement had not been reached. To date, an agreement has not been reached and press reports indicate that routine eye exam services are winding down or stopping as of September 1, 2021. Routine eye exams for the age groups in question continue to be listed OHIP services. Insurance carriers are prohibited from covering services already insured by the province. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
