Working with Cinematic \u201cParatexts”: A panel discussion with: James Deaville, Ed Vollans, Agnes Malkinson, Dan Hesford and David Richler.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. James Deaville, School for Studies in Art and Culture: Music; Dr. Daniel Hesford is a researcher and screenwriter with a PhD in film studies from the University of Edinburgh; Agnes Malkinson, PhD student in the Communication program at Carleton University; David Richler, PhD student in Cultural Mediations at Carleton University; Ed Vollans, Doctoral Candidate at the University of East Anglia.<\/p>\n

Abstract: The trailer has become a universally identifiable marker for the film industry and its promotional practices. In this age of social media, when trailers are more readily accessible than ever before, it has become a ubiquitous consumer product for screen audiences. Academics have begun to study the trailer in terms of production, “components” and audiences, and in doing so have adopted a variety of perspectives. This panel will explore the diversity of approaches that can be mobilized in exploring the world of trailers. Each panelist will briefly present his or her methodology in working with trailers, which will be followed by an open discussion.<\/p>\n
