Congratulations to Carleton professor Dr. Carol Payne (SSAC\/ICSLAC) and Cultural Mediations Alumnae Drs. Annette de Stecher and Christina Williamson, whose publications received recognition from the Canadian Historical Association (CHA).<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Drs. Carol Payne<\/a> and Christina Williamson<\/a> are the recipients of a CHA Clio Award (North) for their book Atiqput: Inuit Oral History and Project Naming<\/a><\/em>, which they co-edited with Beth Greenhorn and Deborah Kigjugalik Webster. The CHA \u2018S CLIO award recognizes \u201c<\/em>the best books in regional history, as well as [\u2026] individuals or historical societies who have made significant contributions to local and regional history.\u201d Published with McGill-Queen\u2019s University Press, Atiqput <\/em>offers \u201c <\/em>[a] multigenerational discussion of culture, history, and naming centring on archival photographs of Inuit whose names were previously unrecorded.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Annette de Stecher<\/a>, professor of Art History at the University of Colorado Boulder and 2013 Cultural Mediations Alumna<\/a>, is the recipient of the CHA\u2019s 2023 Indigenous History Book Prize for her monograph Wendat Women\u2019s Arts<\/a>, <\/em>also published with McGill-Queen\u2019s University Press. The prize is awarded annually by the Indigenous History Group, a committee affiliated with the Canadian Historical Association, to recognize the best book in aboriginal history. \u201c <\/em>Breaking new ground in Indigenous art histories\u201d, Wendat Women\u2019s Arts<\/em> offers \u201c [a] richly illustrated history of Wendat women\u2019s embroidery traditions, from the eighteenth century to the present, interwoven with the stories of the artists.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
