Michelle Optis is a graduate of Carleton University’s School of Industrial Design (B.I.D) and earned her masters’ degree in Ergonomics (Human Factors) from the University of Derby (M.Sc.). Michelle has over 16 years’ experience in consumer product safety with expertise in the analysis of human factors and the risk assessment of children’s products at Health Canada.
Michelle is responsible for anything and everything related to the compliance and enforcement of toys under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act. Her day job includes coordinating toy recalls and leading national enforcement projects for toys.
Michelle was the Health Canada lead for the team that developed the joint US-Canada “Guidance on the Application of Human Factors to Consumer Products” (2020) that is now available to manufacturers.
