We\u2019ve also experienced the repercussions of nature\u2019s decline through COVID-19, whose jump from animals to humans may be linked to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/06\/17\/magazine\/animal-disease-covid.html\">habitat destruction<\/a>. And yet the international community&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2020\/sep\/15\/every-global-target-to-stem-destruction-of-nature-by-2020-missed-un-report-aoe\">failed to achieve a single Aichi Biodiversity Target<\/a> to curb environmental destruction by 2020<a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/respect-for-indigenous-knowledge-must-lead-nature-conservation-efforts-in-canada-156273\">&#8230;continued&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The past year has taught us important lessons about the consequences of the harm humans are inflicting on the natural world.
