The Human Rights and Social Justice Program invites submissions for the annual J. Carlisle Hanson Essay Contest.<\/p>\n
The J. Carlisle Hanson Award in Human Rights is awarded annually on the recommendation of the Director of the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies to a student enrolled in the human rights program who submits the best essay addressing the topic of human rights and democracy.\u00a0 Essays are also invited to examine the topics from a Canadian Perspective.\u00a0 Endowed in 2007 by J. Carlisle Hanson, Q.C.<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em>The contest is open to students who are majoring in Human Rights and Social Justice in a B.A. General, a B.A. Honours, or a B.A. Combined Honours program.<\/strong><\/p>\n There will be two prizes of $750<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The essays under consideration should have been written for one of your courses during the 2021-22 academic years (Spring\/Summer 2021, Fall 2021, Winter 2022).\u00a0 You are welcome to revise these essays and incorporate instructors\u2019 feedback to prepare your essay for submission.<\/p>\n You are eligible to submit only one essay per academic year.\u00a0 Your chosen essay should have been awarded a grade in the A range.<\/p>\n Submission Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n Length:<\/strong> 8-20 pages<\/p>\n Format:<\/strong> Typed, double-spaced, with one-inch margins.\u00a0 Number your pages.<\/p>\n Citation Style:<\/strong>\u00a0 MLA, APA, Chicago, or McGill styles are all acceptable.\u00a0 Only entries that are fully and properly documented will be considered.<\/p>\n Submission Guidelines:<\/strong><\/p>\n The following information must be included on a title page:<\/p>\n NB:\u00a0 Your essay will be reviewed anonymously: please make sure that your name does not appear on any pages after the title page.<\/strong><\/p>\n Essays shall be submitted electronically in word processor format to the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies (iis@carleton.ca).\u00a0 Please write \u201cJ.
