On June 1, 2026, the Landon Pearson Centre at Carleton University celebrated its 20th anniversary. As part of the event, Childhood and Youth Studies (CHST) students engaged with the exhibition Reimagining from the South: Girls and Women with Disabilities Advocating for Change, featuring artwork and advocacy by girls and women with disabilities involved in the ENGAGE Project. Co-organized by the Decolonial Disability Studies Collective and CHST 3304A, the exhibition highlighted Global South perspectives on disability and challenged dominant narratives.<\/p>\n

Through the exhibition, CHST students encountered powerful counternarratives of disability and girlhood. One student reflected: \u201cWhat stood out most was the girls\u2019 resilience and their ability to use their voices to advocate for change.\u201d The exhibition reinforced the importance of recognizing girls with disabilities as active agents and contributors to a more inclusive society.<\/p>\n
