Merlyna Lim is a Canada Research Chair in Digital Media and Global Network Society in the School of Journalism and Communication, Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada). Prior to joining Carleton, Lim held research and teaching positions at Princeton University, Arizona State University, and University of Southern California. Her research interests revolve around political and cultural implications of media and technology, in relations to globalization, democratization, and social change. She is particularly interested in exploring and theorizing on the role of digital media in transforming politics—in national, transnational, and global levels—and in facilitating new forms of citizen participation/engagement and new social movements. Merlyna Lim has published extensively on the Internet and social media activism in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
