The community at Carleton University would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Dr. Patricia Monture’s three sons, family, friends, community, and Nation following her passing on Wednesday, November 17, 2010.
We were honoured to have had Dr. Monture lecture as part of the university’s first Indigenous speaker series in October 2008. Her powerful talk on women and Indigenous legal traditions inspired women and men, Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, students, colleagues, and community members.
As a Haudenosaunee lawyer, activist, educator, writer, and scholar, Dr. Monture is remembered for her keen intellect, grounding in her traditions, eloquent speaking and writing voice, and grassroots advocacy for the rights of her people. Above all, Patricia Monture will be remembered as a warm and loving mother, sister, auntie, niece, friend, and proud Haudenosaunee woman.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the family in care of Justin Monture at firstname.lastname@example.org.
