Indigenous graduates and faculty may choose to wear traditional Indigenous attire, in lieu of a gown, at all convocation ceremonies. The hood may be carried rather than worn depending on cultural protocols.

Graduates must submit notification to the Center for Indigenous Initiatives at least 2 weeks prior to the ceremony. This is to advise and inform the President and convocation organizers. Carleton University acknowledges the diversity of Indigenous peoples, communities, and nations. As such it is recognized that traditional Indigenous attire may vary.
