Donations to the fund continue to be made on an ongoing basis to support students in need.<\/p>\n<h2>Eligibility<\/h2>\n<p>Students must meet all of the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Self-identify as First Nations, Inuit, or M\u00e9tis.<\/li>\n<li>Be currently enrolled in an academic program at Carleton University.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraph\"><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Be engaged with a support worker or service appropriate to their individual needs\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraph\">Students who do not currently have a support worker may request to connect with an Indigenous counsellor by emailing <a title=\"ma&#105;&#108;&#116;&#x6f;&#x3a;&#x69;&#x6e;di&#103;&#101;&#110;&#x6f;&#x75;&#x73;&#x63;ou&#110;&#115;&#101;&#x6c;&#x6c;&#x6f;&#x72;&#64;c&#97;&#114;&#108;&#x65;&#x74;&#x6f;&#x6e;&#46;c&#97;?subject=Student%20Emergency%20Fund%20Application\" href=\"mail&#116;&#111;&#58;&#105;&#110;&#100;&#105;&#x67;&#x65;&#x6e;&#x6f;&#x75;&#x73;&#x63;&#x6f;&#x75;nsel&#108;&#111;&#114;&#64;&#99;&#97;&#114;&#x6c;&#x65;&#x74;&#x6f;&#x6e;&#x2e;&#x63;&#x61;?subject=Student%20Emergency%20Fund%20Application\" data-linkindex=\"1\">&#x69;n&#x64;&#105;g&#x65;&#110;&#x6f;&#117;s&#x63;&#111;&#x75;&#110;s&#x65;&#108;&#x6c;&#x6f;r&#x40;&#99;a&#x72;&#108;&#x65;&#116;o&#x6e;&#46;&#x63;&#97;<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate an immediate and unexpected financial hardship affecting their academic success.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Funding Limits<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Students may receive up to $1,000 per academic year (September to August).<\/li>\n<li>Requests for support that are above this limit may be considered in exceptional circumstances on a case by case basis.<\/li>\n<li>All exceptions require approval by the Provost and two members of from the CISCE team.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Eligible Expenses<\/h2>\n<p>Funding may be used for urgent, short-term needs including but not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Housing or shelter emergencies<\/li>\n<li>Food insecurity<\/li>\n<li>Medical or safety-related expenses<\/li>\n<li>Emergency travel related to family or community crises<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Non-Eligible Expenses<\/h2>\n<p>To ensure the fund is used for immediate, essential needs, the following expenses are not considered eligible:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Non-essential or discretionary purchases\n<ul>\n<li>Electronics upgrades (new phone, gaming consoles)<\/li>\n<li>Entertainment costs (streaming services, tickets)<\/li>\n<li>D\u00e9cor or non-essential household items<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Long-term or recurring financial commitments\n<ul>\n<li>Car payments or leases<\/li>\n<li>Loan payments<\/li>\n<li>Credit card debit or interest payments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Travel not related to documented emergency<\/li>\n<li>Fees related to lifestyle or memberships (gym memberships, sport leagues)<\/li>\n<li>Fines or penalties (parking tickets, late fees, legal fees)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Application and Review Process<\/h2>\n<ol start=\"1\" type=\"1\">\n<li><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">To request and submit an application, as well as supporting documentation, please email\u00a0<a title=\"&#x6d;&#97;i&#x6c;&#x74;&#111;:&#x69;&#x6e;&#100;i&#x67;&#101;n&#x6f;&#x75;&#115;&#64;&#x63;&#x61;&#114;l&#x65;&#116;&#111;&#x6e;&#x2e;&#99;a\" href=\"&#109;&#x61;i&#108;&#x74;o&#58;&#x69;n&#x64;&#x69;&#103;&#x65;n&#111;&#x75;s&#64;&#x63;a&#x72;&#x6c;&#101;&#x74;&#x6f;&#110;&#x2e;c&#97;\" data-linkindex=\"0\">&#105;&#x6e;d&#105;&#x67;&#101;&#x6e;o&#117;&#x73;&#64;&#x63;&#x61;&#114;&#x6c;e&#116;&#x6f;n&#x2e;&#x63;&#97;\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Requests up to $1,000 per student per academic year are reviewed and approved at the discretion of the Director or Assistant Director of CISCE.<\/li>\n<li>Any request that exceeds $1000 per student, per academic year must include the Indigenous Student Emergency Fund Application Form and will require a meeting with a member of the Centre for Indigenous Support and Community Engagement prior to approval.
